Dr.
Pederson, a native Texan, took his premedical training at the
University of Texas. In 1978, he received his MD degree from
the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
He took both his internship and residency at the University
of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Dr. Pederson
fine tuned his medical education with Plastic Surgery training
at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, with a hand surgery
fellowship in Louisville, Kentucky, and a fellowship in Microsurgery
at St. Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
He is a member of
numerous medical and surgical professional organizations and a participant
in national and local committees in his field. The author of dozens of
textbook chapters and journal publications, Dr. Pederson is on the Editorial
Boards of the Journal of Hand Surgery and the Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery.
Prior to joining the Hand Center, Dr. Pederson was Head of the Division of
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science
Center at San Antonio and served on the faculty of Duke University Medical Center.
In recognition of his many contributions to the field, Dr. Pederson was elected by his peers to be President of the American Society of Microsurgery Reconstruction in 2006-2007.
Dr. Pederson's clinical
interests include the management of vascular problems in the upper extremity,
nerve injuries, difficult bony nonunions, facial paralysis, and the area of
complex microsurgical reconstruction.
He enjoys music, photography, cooking, and spending time with his family.
