Dr. John V. Ingari joined the Hand Center of San Antonio after a twenty year career as a hand and upper extremity surgeon in the United States Air Force. He did his undergraduate studies at Harvard University, graduating with honors as well as lettering in both football and springboard diving. Following graduation, Dr. Ingari joined the US Air Force and has served all over the world as the Air Force's most senior hand surgeon. He has deployed to Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Germany, directly serving those in harm's way. During Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Dr. Ingari was one of the first flight surgeons deployed to provide medical support for combat fliers. As recently as 2006, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he served as the Deputy Commander of the largest Air Force Theater Hospital in Iraq, and performed over 530 surgical procedures on patients with combat injuries. His unique experiences also included being Chairman of Orthopaedics at the Air Force's largest teaching hospital, Lackland Air Force Base, which convinced him that San Antonio was the perfect place for him and his family to settle after the service. His lifelong interest in athletics makes him particularly suited to treat shoulder injuries of all types as well as competitive sports injuries in the hand, elbow, and wrist.
Dr. Ingari has published extensively in the orthopaedic literature; both book chapters and peer reviewed articles. He is a firm proponent of orthopaedic education and has been involved in training orthopaedic residents for over ten years.
IHe enjoys skiing, weightlifting, and running. He and his wife, Arlene, have three teenage children who keep their parents up to date on Ipods, computer games and paintball.
